A designer can be tempted to continue with tried-and-true formulae season after season as they are one of the few internationally renowned couture brands that are for sale. This is not at all the case, though, at Isabel Sanchis' ateliers.
The mother-daughter team behind the brand, who won the L'Oréal Award at the most recent Fashion Week Madrid, sets out in search of novel techniques, difficulties, and aesthetics with each new collection because, as they say, "the international market is exceptionally demanding" and constantly ravenous for innovation. Although their designs are quite famous in the US and the Arab world, they never forget about their Spanish customer.
Their new collection for Spring/Summer 2024 has a variety of possibilities, all of which share a common romantic and feminine thread: feathers. This is due to the wide variety of ladies seeking their styles.
"In this collection, we've explored methods for making innovative volumes, especially using horsehair and recycled plastics. Feathers also play a crucial part, acting as the uniting factor. The Valencian designer and her daughter, Paula Maiques, who jointly oversee the creative direction of these exquisite dresses tailored for cocktails, weddings, or red-carpet affairs, explain that they painstakingly handcrafted duck feathers, giving them a geometric touch before translating them into prints on silks and wools, hand-painting them, and embellishing with metallic details.
Observing their lively colour scheme reveals the variety of circumstances appropriate for their works: fuchsias, limes, and oranges are indicated "for daytime occasions," while the elegance of black is advocated "for evening events." Chiffon and silk, which flow beautifully, coexist on stage with hard, almost sculptural shapes made of polymer horsehair, a process that has taken countless hours to perfect. They admit that it took them more than two months of laborious work to complete one outfit in their collection.
As Paula Maiques describes, "I've developed a penchant for wearing trousers when attending ceremonies or parties lately, and I believe they can be just as elegant as a dress." This collection likewise focuses a higher emphasis on trousers. The secret to the ideal guest outfit, regardless of whether one chooses a dress or pants, is in the choice of the proper accessories. Although they have clothed well-known celebrities from all over the world including Nieves Alvarez, Sharon Stone, and Chiara Ferragni, and created clothing with "all women" in mind, their ambition—which is skillfully tempered with humility—constantly pushes them to surpass their previous achievements.
