I'm Priyanka Trehan, a freelance professional hair and makeup artist. I am from India and I have spent the last seven years working in the Indian film industry. I enjoy giving individuals confidence and am always ready for a challenge. I graduated from VLCC Institute Amritsar with a DIPLOMA OF COSMETOLOGY AND PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP when I was 19 years old. Then after that, with the assistance of my mother and brother, I moved to Mumbai to begin a successful career in the film industry. The only reason I am where I am now is because of my family. At age 6, my father passed away. The only person who nurtured us and helped us develop our individual identities was my mother.
Tell us a little bit about how you first got into makeup and about your journey to where you are today!
As I've already stated, I'm wherever I am due to my mum. She is my model and the reason I became interested in cosmetics. After my dad passed away, she took up all of our responsibilities before opening a beauty salon in Punjab [state]. She helped me choose the ideal school to master this talent because she is also a beautician. I accepted her gift and discovered this. I had a lot of difficulties at the beginning of my work since it was the first time I had abandoned my comfort zone and encountered reality. The situation as a whole was extremely different from what I had anticipated. I have gained respect, fame, money, and love because I never gave up in any circumstance.
What does makeup mean to you?
MAKEUP IS MY LIFE. makeup is everything to me [my strength, my mother's gift, my confidence]. Makeup, for me, has always brought me an immense amount of JOY. This art has helped me to realize Who I Am Meant To Me.
What keeps you creatively inspired? Do you have any advice for anyone, any young person who wants to go into the field of professional makeup?
My surroundings served as inspiration for fresh and distinctive appearances. I also enjoy playing with colours on my eyes. My advice to aspiring makeup artists is to maintain their composure and be courteous and don't believe that they are faultless. You require a variety of abilities and traits, including creativity, motivation, time management, communication skills, tact, and more.
What are your hopes for the future?
I aspire to be a successful Makeup Artist who is in high demand by clients and celebrities alike. I want to be known for my unique style and ability to create looks that wow my clients. I also hope to use my platform to empower other women and help them feel confident and beautiful. I want to be able to open Makeup Academies worldwide.
What are the three tools in your makeup kit that you can never, ever be without?
The 3 makeup tools that I can never be without are - Brushes, Tissue Paper, and Cue Tips.
What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to both men & women?
Maintaining proper hygiene and hydration is my beauty advice. Utilize your skin type-appropriate cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, and always use SPF before venturing outside.
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
My Personal style is very Elective. I love mixing and matching different products and colors to create unique looks. I also love experimenting with different makeup styles and looks. I think that fashion and makeup should be fun and should reflect your personality.
In your own words, what does the term “Women Empowerment” mean to you?
For me, WOMEN EMPOWERMENT means enabling women to have control over their lives, make choices and decisions, and have equal access to resources and opportunities.
My favorite saying is -“We rise by lifting each other up” What more do you think women could do to support each other, especially in this day and age?
I completely concur with this statement since I work to assist everyone, regardless of gender. anytime I can and in whatever way I can to help them. We need to understand that other women's achievement really strengthens us, not weaken us. We also need to stop passing judgment on other women and constantly be open to hearing their feelings and points of view. Women can support one another by pooling their assets.
How do you define success for yourself as an entrepreneur?
For Me, Success is not only about earning money and fame. it's about how I contribute to my Nation and Family. For me, success is when my Mother is proud of me and is able to forget all the sorrows of her life because she gave all her life to raise us.
Beauty profiles on Instagram have become a major influence on the beauty industry – Do you have any favorites you follow or want to recommend to our readers?
There is no denying that beauty profiles on social media have a significant impact on the beauty business. MakeupbyMario, Chrissaplleton, Mimles, and Kim Kardashian are some of my favourites. These are some of my favorite social media stars, and I look forward to working with Kim Kardashian as her cosmetics and hairdresser because I truly want to give her a new style.
What do you think will be the trends for beauty that will come out next season?
Nowadays I can see people spend more time and money on skin care instead of makeup. They love to spend on glass skin and follow skin care routines. So according to me, the next beauty trend will be glass skin with natural ways.
Can you describe how the makeup has changed over the years?
As you already know, I'm from India, and my mother used to have her own salon in Punjab. I observed her applying cosmetics on her brides. People wore red clothing more frequently at that period, favored full-coverage makeup, and preferred fair-toned cosmetic styles. I currently work as a makeup artist. I see that females prefer pastel colors and a natural makeup look on their wedding day because they believe that their flaws should be visible and that they should be true to themselves.
How do you approach working with a team, such as other makeup artists, hairstylists, and photographers, on set or for an event?
I follow a lot of make-up artists, hair stylists, photographers, and designers since I'm always willing to learn from others. I adore working with fresh faces and new perspectives. I contact them via my Instagram account. It's akin to starting a new relationship to find and work with a new team. It is first both exhilarating and irritating, but after you get to know everyone better, the true fun begins. I initially texted influencers to ask them to work with me on a novel, experimental project.
What are some of the biggest misconceptions about the makeup artist profession, and how do you address them?
The biggest misconception I feel in my career is that some of my clients expect so much from makeup but it is very difficult sometimes to explain to them that makeup can enhance your features but can't change them.
How do you maintain a balance between creativity and customer satisfaction when working on a project?
Customer satisfaction is my priority and always will be. My creativity is also important to me but I maintain a balance with doing extra editorial photoshoots and video shoots for my profile and for magazines. but I suggest my clients go with trendy makeup looks and allow me to do it accordingly.
What are your thoughts on using makeup as a form of self-expression or political statement?
Being a Makeup artist, In my regular routine I'm not a makeup person, I like to be natural and I only use makeup when it's a live-or-die moment for me.

What are your latest and upcoming projects?
My Latest project is an Indo-Canadian movie directed by Tarsem Singh [ The Cell, The Fall] which was selected by @tiff_net. My upcoming project is my collaboration with a few Social Media Influencers.
