Fundamentally, the Dior Cruise 2024 Collection honours the resolute soul of Frida Kahlo, a legendary personification of Mexico's vibrant culture. This collection is driven by Kahlo's unwavering will to use clothes as a vehicle for representation, rebellion, and self-affirmation—a resolve that transcends societal limits.
Accepting her influence, the collection transforms into a metaphorical cocoon that reveals a rainbow of colours and designs reminiscent of a butterfly's delicate wings. In addition, moths take to the air on the collection's shapes, drawing inspiration from an old Andrée Brossin de Méré artwork for Dior.
The collection skillfully combines Kahlo's style with Tehuana heritage, voluminous skirts with the traditional "huipils" tunics, channelling her brave challenge to conventional gender standards. The delicate embroidered elements in the collection enhance the beauty of the dresses and shirts via collaborations with local artists.
