Rick Owens' Spring Summer 2024 presentation was inspired by a Björk concert, but it was Diana Ross's interpretation of "I Still Believe in love" that created the mood for the collection. In spite of Owens's reputation as the "Prince of Darkness," the opening looks were shockingly chic and lovely, evoking cinema queens from the 1930s wearing tall platform sandal boots.
Deep reds and mauve-like pinks were prominent in the collection, highlighting Owens's sense of colour. He played with colour and silhouette with long skirts in caramel leather and dusty pink motorbike jackets with peak shoulders. Silk capes with rounded hems that billow like parachutes were a new addition by Owens, giving the collection a sense of lightness.
A whimsical touch was provided by tulle and organza "donuts" with accordion pleats in brilliant hues of fuchsia pink and acid yellow. The final five models wore flowy jumpsuits with matching translucent veils that resembled hazmat suits, which Owens acknowledged as a recognition of the reality of the outside world.
Owens' collection demonstrated his ability to discover beauty in the unexpected by fusing elegance with his trademark dark approach.
