The Winter 2023 campaign by Saint Laurent is a compelling story of bourgeois sensuality against the backdrop of Paris's eternal streets. This project represents a new phase in the ongoing partnership between renowned photographer-director Juergen Teller and creative director Anthony Vaccarello.

The stunning images from the ad provide the famous Parisian buildings a taste of sophisticated sobriety that verges on regret. A predominately black colour scheme highlights Vaccarello's dramatically exaggerated tailoring and the movement of drapes and flowing materials against the grey skies, producing a dramatic and sombre silhouette against neoclassical marble and bronze. Interior photos show models in a range of attired and undressed states, evoking a sinister feeling of bourgeois refinement.

The stylish, ominous atmosphere is enhanced by Teller's accompanying cinematic short film. Winds rip at skirt trains and scarves, making the models stand powerfully like half-hearted ghosts. Luxurious baroque carpets are adorned with lacquered nails and pointed heels, as the sun fights to break through the clouds. With its tentative guitar and ethereal strings, the music is a fantastic fit for the overall ambiance of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," set to Jon Brion's score.

This visually moody campaign showcases Vaccarello and Teller's synergistic collaboration. Teller expertly creates a visually rich environment in which Vaccarello's creations live on their own. It depicts a society similar to ours, but with one major difference: it is a luxocracy in which only the most fearsome and smart women survive. The campaign is an undeniably sophisticated and classy monument to Saint Laurent's imaginative depiction of the spirit of Paris.
