Naeem Khan Pre-Fall 2024 Collection Lookbook
The designer Naeem Khan makes a daring break from tradition with his Pre-Fall 2024 collection, which features a selection of evening gowns in jewel tones. Khan talked about his intention to "cleanse" himself of traditional Indian inspirations in an online chat, moving away from the ethnic diversity that characterised his previous spring collection.
With a nod to his buddy, the celebrated architect and 2023 Pritzker Prize laureate David Chipperfield, the world of architecture emerged as an unanticipated inspiration for Khan. Chipperfield's geometric concrete buildings and Khan's romantic evening attire may seem to contradict, but the influence was evident in the collection's square shoulders and bold V-necklines, which gave it a contemporary edge. The crisp lines of Chipperfield's James-Simon Galerie in Berlin were replicated in even the folds of an A-line dress made of champagne silk.
Khan made an effort to break away from tradition, yet his innate romanticism was evident in the care with which he treated the fabrics. The collection showcased elaborate paisley and baroque designs with delicate embellishments like rhinestone fawns, raffia flowers, and soutache needlework utilising folded ribbon. Khan underlined his commitment to ensure the talents of certain Indian craftsmen are preserved, emphasising the need to do so.
The opulent jewellery selections of a VIP client served as the inspiration for the gem-toned palette, which included sapphire, ruby, and emerald. Khan offered anecdotal evidence of a customer who bought a quarter-million-dollar jewellery from Chopard before finishing her mother-of-the-bride gown. This inspired the designer to produce clothing that melds well with extravagant jewellery, matching style to his clientele's ostentatious way of living.
A violet satin crepe halter gown that mirrored the size of amethyst drop earrings in its neck rosette was one of the collection's most striking pieces. However, the elaborate blue floral embroidery on the sapphire stretch-sequin dresses captured attention all by themselves, proving the collection's adaptability and capacity to shine even without further decorations.
