Mugler Pre-Fall 2024 Collection Lookbook.
Mugler presents its Pre-Fall 2024 collection, which is a momentous occasion as the designer presents the first formal menswear offering for the renowned fashion brand, under the creative guidance of Casey Cadwallader.
Known for his inventive style and easygoing creative process, Cadwallader offers insights into the inspiration behind this collection and how it delves deeper into Mugler's opulent and gloomy image.
In this collection, Cadwallader's experience with Mugler's menswear takes centre stage. Men's fashion was once only a lighthearted experimentation for him, but it's now a formalised and essential component of Mugler's portfolio. The designer defies conventional binary fashion conventions by emphasizing the value of a seamless fit and taking inspiration from clothing worn by both men and women.
To maintain a colourful and opulent aesthetic, Cadwallader experiments with creative fabrications. A slouchy Japanese moire velvet suit, a sensuous mesh dress with flocked velvet tiles, a leather-feathered sheath, and a sleek coat made of "ultrasonic welded rubber" are all part of the collection. Mugler's opulent essence is preserved by the designer, who makes sure that even the pre-collection radiates luxury.
The exquisite tailoring of the collection is its most notable aspect; it combines Cadwallader's signature razor-blade sharpness with a fresh sense of elegance. Mugler's minimalist side may be explored by the designer through pre-collections. With extra-broad shoulders reinforced by boning and button details removed for a neurotically precise finish, each item is painstakingly constructed.
In contrast to the ephemeral silhouettes of spring, Cadwallader says he felt "consumed by darkness" while creating this collection. The designer explores the darker side of Mugler while subtly referencing Thierry Mugler's famous usage of kink and fetishistic aspects. The main features are corsetry, lacing, and belting; these details provide a more sophisticated perspective on Mugler's sexy style.
While provocative imagery has been a feature of recent fashion industry trends, Cadwallader approaches sexuality with more depth. Beyond the cliché that "sex sells," he views it as a representation of resistance and power. In line with Mugler's tradition, the collection alludes to a vampy and vampiric aspect of the Mugler-verse, showcasing the designer's capacity to change and surprise.
