Samuel Guè Yang triumphantly returned to the runway at Shanghai Fashion Week with his Autumn Winter 2024–2025 collection, exhibiting his unique fusion of East and West, following a break from the catwalk since July of 2022. The location, a historically significant house in the Shikumen architecture, provided Yang with the ideal setting for his investigation of modernism and cultural fusion.

Yang was inspired by the rich tapestry of Chinese heritage, especially the well-known book "Dream of the Red Chamber" by Cao Xueqin. Yang is renowned for his ability to blend Eastern and Western ideas flawlessly. The 18th-century literary masterwork served as the collection's thematic basis. Yang characterised it as a "sino-aesthetic that resists singularity."

The collection featured subtle hints of rich green and vivid red, demonstrating the designer's skill in attention to detail. Yang showed off his ability to rework traditional clothing for the modern wardrobe, from cropped cheongsams turned into elegant shirts for everyday use to bias-cut silk and velvet sheaths for evening wear.

A noteworthy item was the denim tangzhuang, which was surprisingly worn with adidas trainers as a part of an impending partnership. This mix of contemporary streetwear and Chinese ancestry captured Yang's philosophy of balancing style and functionality, resulting in a collection that transcended preconceived notions.

Set in a charming Shanghainese neighbourhood on the hottest day of the week, the play was a sensory extravaganza. Models moved across the little area, wearing clothing that jingled with every step they took. A sight of the real Shanghai was provided by Yang's silks dancing in unison with the background of hanging laundry as the city air blew through the open windows.

Returning to Shanghai, Samuel Guì Yang honoured the cultural diversity of the city with a transcendent fashion experience, in addition to showcasing his skills as a designer. Yang is paving the path for a new age of East meets West fashion with his unwavering dedication to pushing boundaries and questioning standards.
