Bevza Spring Summer 2025 collection lookbook presented at New York Fashion Week SS25.
A good metaphor for Svitlana Bevza's Spring Summer 2025 collection, "Dew in the Sun," is that admiring one of her creations is like breathing in clean air after a downpour. Bevza took inspiration for this season from the natural world and the resilience of her native Ukraine. She said, "The title of this collection is also a phrase from our national anthem. The dew drops in the morning look beautiful." Through her designs, Bevza envisioned the potent and uplifting message that "our enemies shall vanish, like dew in the sun."Known for her understated touches and neutral colour schemes, Bevza is well-known for her minimalist style. Still, she added a little glitz and glamour this season. The most striking item was a strapless black taffeta gown in the shape of a dewdrop, with tiny crystal teardrops on it that resembled the dewdrops left on plants in the morning sun. Throughout the collection, shimmer was incorporated to give her usually subdued designs a feeling of optimism and lightness.
As anticipated, Bevza also honoured the rich agricultural history of Ukraine, especially its wheat fields, which have great symbolic significance for the nation. A modest but crucial reference to Ukraine's vital crop, gold decorations shaped like wheat appeared as belt buckles, necklaces, and tie pins. Bevza's iconic black corset was adorned with wheat designs that represented the destruction caused by the conflict in Ukraine, changing between glittering gold and a burned black. "2022 was the reference point for the mixed metal. The charred spikes seemed that way because the bombs had destroyed the wheat fields," Bevza said solemnly. For her biennial New York presentations this season, Bevza decided against doing a traditional runway show. Rather, she concentrated on narrative, giving the public an up-close look at her work. Visitors will be able to view Bevza's collection at the Ukrainian Institute of America starting tomorrow. Through her creations, Bevza not only shares a tale of resiliency and hope, but she also opens up her world to others going through a difficult period.
