Christopher Esber Spring Summer 2025 Fashion Show.
Although Christopher Esber's grand prize win at the 2024 ANDAM in June may have been his proudest moment, the Australian designer wasn't going to sit back and take it all in. Before his second presentation in the city, Esber said backstage before his Spring Summer 2025 show in Paris, "I felt a lot of pressure to make it something I'm really proud about and feels worthy of the win."A modified version of the outfit Esber had presented to the ANDAM jury, which was overseen by Saint Laurent's creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the collection began with a dramatic black dress with a nearly sheer bodice and a draped skirt that wrapped back up to conceal the shoulders. This initial item set the tone for the collection, which included both innovative approaches to tailoring and Esber's typical sensual, sculptural dresses.
Esber's seasonal allusions were as deep as they were varied. He drew inspiration from early 20th-century delicate cotton pants, 1980s draped designs and even leather suits from the Helmut Lang era. The designer's unique style was expertly combined with these inspirations to create a collection that managed to feel both new and familiar.Among the standout items were the draped gowns, which gave an organic touch to the otherwise sleek and architectural designs, and were supported by enormous cast-metal patterns embellished with sea beads. Esber also introduced sleek leather suits with a gradient wash that resembled suede and scuffed back to give them a worn-in, textured look. The collection's utilitarian touch was added by chute dresses with parka-style necklines, and the three remaining polka-dot mesh pieces, when updated with ostrich feathers, resembled wearable dandelions in their delicate yet statement-making nature.
Esber showed how to carefully strike a balance between innovation and commercial viability in the Spring Summer 2025 collection. The collection offered a hint as to where Esber's brand can go in the future by gently venturing into new ground rather than resting on its previous triumphs. Viewers of fashion were excited to see what was next because of the show's bold innovation, sculptural design, and sensuality, which was well-deserved of his recent achievements.
