For the Spring Summer 2025 runway show, Donatella Versace drew inspiration from her Spring 1997 Versus collection, bringing back memories of a pre-digital era when front-row iPhones were not the primary means of experiencing fashion; instead, raised runways and photographers' lenses were the means of doing so. Donatella's own initiative, Versus, embodied the carefree mood of the '90s, a decade she characterised as full of "freedom, happiness, and casual fashion choices." Her brother Gianni oversaw the main line.

Donatella recreated some of the striking motifs and patterns from the 1997 presentation for the SS25 collection, paying homage to the colourful vitality of that time period. Drawn in silk and chainmail, the squiggly knitwear and floral designs reflected the originals, creating a clear connection between the past and present. This nostalgic yet modern concept was staged against a magnificent backdrop at the famous Milanese fortress, Castello Sforzesco.

Versace has already looked into its past, especially after Gianni Versace's death in 2017—which happened to be his 20th birthday—but this collection seemed quite new. Baby pastel slip dresses, cardigans, denim, and short-shorts were among the pieces; the style leaned more towards whimsical sweetness than overt sensiness. The whimsical charm of the design was enhanced by quirky accents like champagne stem heels and perfume bottles. The coupling of a woman's copper tank with a lilac skirt and a man's caramel camp shirt with lavender trousers showcased a refined use of colour that was absent from the original Versus display. A delicate leather jacket with white and violet accents and violet leather trousers was another standout piece.
