Eternal Horizon: Kris Goyri’s SS25 Collection at Mexico Fashion Week Celebrates the Magic of Sunsets and Celestial Beauty
Kris Goyri’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, La Puesta de Sol, offered an evocative journey through sunset-inspired hues and nature’s fleeting beauty at Mexico Fashion Week. His show, with a centerpiece resembling a glowing orange semicircle—symbolic of the setting sun—drew viewers into an ethereal exploration of Oaxaca’s coastal skies and celestial phenomena.
As the models took to the runway, Goyri’s first look—a striking blue bandeau top fastened by a metallic ring to a layered skirt in deep orange and vibrant purple pleats—captured his artistic fascination with the sun’s transformative colors. This palette of rich blues, blazing oranges, and soft purples resonated as a visual homage to the coastal Oaxacan sunsets that inspired him. “I’ve been thinking about how the colors around the sun transform as it sets,” Goyri shared backstage. “The birds passing by become these mystical beings against the light, marking a unique moment in time.” This essence of impermanence and surreal beauty ran through every piece, materialized in diaphanous layers, playful silhouettes, and unexpected touches that felt as ephemeral as twilight.
Goyri’s vision of an idyllic sunset landscape was realized in both literal and abstract forms, blending ethereal beauty with earthly charm. Dresses flowed in a dance of pleated silks, evoking sea breezes, while fabric-covered buttons graced waistbands and backs with Goyri's hallmark elegance. Birds in flight, seemingly touched by the golden sun, adorned mini tube dresses and corset tops, transforming each garment into a living canvas of nature’s splendor. A radiant orange ensemble reminiscent of sunlight on ocean waves stood out, while moon-phase motifs graced jumpsuits, bringing an understated nod to the quiet mystery of nightfall. The collection also showcased grounded yet romantic pieces for everyday wear, adding depth to the fantasy. A sheer brown dress with flowing sleeves offered a restrained elegance, while a '60s-inspired A-line mini dress evoked nostalgic simplicity with its clean lines. Balancing whimsy with wearability, Goyri included pieces like an asymmetric top paired with a double-slit skirt, as well as a geometric-patterned skirt suit that felt both structured and playful.
Beyond the collection’s visual appeal, Goyri captured a feeling—a bittersweet longing for the carefree essence of the '90s, an era marked by uninhibited joy and simplicity. With vibrant colors, intricate embellishments, and effortlessly flowing silhouettes, Goyri’s SS25 collection was more than a series of looks; it was a vibrant celebration of life’s transient beauty, an invitation to pause and appreciate the magic of a fleeting sunset.
In La Puesta de Sol, Goyri transformed fabric into poetry, inviting us to stand still, if only for a moment, and savor the beauty of the sun slipping beyond the horizon.
