Rokh Spring/Summer 2025: An Ode to Craftsmanship and Poetic Experimentation at Paris Fashion Week
At Paris Fashion Week, Rok Hwang’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection reimagined the boundaries of craft and romanticism, departing from his hallmark deconstruction to embrace an intimate, handcrafted aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from his atelier’s craftsmanship, Hwang created a collection that celebrates the artisanal and labor-intensive techniques honed at his workshop. “This season’s inspiration came entirely from the work done at our atelier's table,” he reflected backstage, signaling a shift from theoretical to tactile, process-driven design. In this collection, Hwang’s team explored the potential of fabric manipulation with a new softness, infusing pieces with romantic, almost poetic, details while maintaining his signature edge. Delicate rosettes, handcrafted from recycled chiffon and surplus ribbons, were dyed in ethereal, pale shades using organic tea. These meticulously crafted blooms adorned pieces like a sharply tailored men’s black suit jacket, transforming the rigid form into a unique fusion of structure and delicacy.
Playful yet refined, the collection featured shirring and ruching techniques that brought dimension to diaphanous blouse-capes in airy mousseline, layered over finely embellished wide-leg denim. Hwang ventured into sculptural shapes, employing shirring to create half-moon panniers on a sophisticated off-white corset, paired with relaxed, draped trousers. This balance between structure and fluidity extended through the collection, evident in cascading pleated ruffles, asymmetrical frocks poised in elegant disarray, and short peplum crinolines bursting from minimalistic tank tops. The resulting look was whimsical and artful, evoking a sense of grace and fragility while remaining grounded in utility.Hwang’s SS25 collection is a testament to his ability to translate high-concept craftsmanship into wearable pieces, demonstrating his knack for commercial success without sacrificing artistic depth. His recent collaboration with H&M, which sold out almost immediately, exemplifies this duality, proving that imaginative, intricate designs can hold wide appeal.
The Rokh Spring/Summer 2025 collection effortlessly marries fantasy and realism, blending experimental techniques with an eye for functionality. Each piece celebrates craftsmanship, embodying an elegance that balances the ethereal and the practical—a poetic exploration of form, texture, and the transformative power of artisanal design.
