Houga FW25: A Spellbinding Rebellion in Motion
Houga ホウガ unveiled its Fall Winter 2025-2026 collection within the storied halls of Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan in Tokyo, weaving a poetic narrative that dismantled societal constraints and celebrated uninhibited self-expression. Themed “Spell on My Boundaries,” this season continued the brand’s surrealist odyssey, The Tale of Houga Land, crafting a visual allegory of personal liberation through the lens of fantasy.
Episode 07 of the ongoing saga followed a woman from a borderless realm, thrust into a world defined by rigid structures and confining outlines. Confronted with this stark contrast, she conjures her inner witch, casting sartorial incantations to dissolve limitations and reclaim autonomy. This transformative journey materialized through garments imbued with dreamlike fluidity, rebellious tailoring, and whimsical flourishes, dissolving the barriers between reality and reverie.
Anchoring the collection was the debut of the "Houga Banquet" special line—an ode to celebratory dressing. A chambray silk organza gown, its cascading frills imbued with lightness and grandeur, epitomized the brand’s signature interplay of structure and ethereality. Complementing this vision were sculpted wool slacks and silk-frilled bustiers, subverting the notion of traditional occasionwear with poetic nonchalance.
Houga’s fascination with uniforms found new expression in a dialogue between tradition and liberation. Classic tartans, reimagined through deconstruction, morphed into tailored silhouettes disrupted by gathered hems and unexpected layering. Patchworked shirts fused multiple tartan patterns, defying conventional craftsmanship and embracing a spirit of playful irreverence.
Mysticism coursed through the collection, with witchcraft motifs whispering secrets into the seams. A jacquard dress, etched with arcane flora and fauna as if gathered from a sorceress’s enchanted grove, unfolded into a voluminous silhouette punctuated by a dramatic back bustle. Accessories furthered the narrative—braided cord skirts, basket-woven handbags, and ethereal glass-beaded adornments evoked talismans of forgotten spells and secret rituals.
With FW25, designer Moe Ishida invoked a world where fashion transcends the physical, serving as a conduit for self-discovery, defiance, and transformation. A collection not merely worn but lived—each garment a whispered incantation, urging the wearer to dismantle boundaries and step into their own uncharted magic.
