Markgong FW25/26: The It-Girl Renaissance
Mark Gong set a new tone for his brand with the unveiling of his Fall Winter 2025-2026 collection at Shanghai Fashion Week. Theatrics took a backseat to a more refined vision, as Gong embraced a mature yet electric aesthetic that retained his signature edge.
The runway unfolded against a mirrored dreamscape, where strobe lights danced over a floor layered with The Markgong News—a satirical tabloid chronicling the fictional lives of his “Gong Girls.” This subversive nod to early 2000s celebrity culture, now making a resurgence across London and Paris, underscored a collection inspired by the original It-girls—Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Kim Kardashian.
Rather than indulging in pure nostalgia, Gong reinterpreted their sartorial codes through a contemporary lens, distilling the essence of their style evolution into a wardrobe that exudes effortless confidence. Statement-making yet wearable, the collection opened with sharply fringed black coats, tailored trousers, and structured skirts, reminiscent of Lisa’s red carpet poise. The silhouettes shifted seamlessly between power and play, balancing sky-high stilettos and micro shorts with nonchalant cardigans and fluid separates.
A single cheeky nod to the Y2K era appeared in the form of a slogan tee emblazoned with "I love Mark Gong, money, and boys," a knowing wink to his loyal fanbase. But at its core, the collection was less about reenacting an era and more about reclaiming its narrative. Gong acknowledged the once-controversial reputations of these women, now redefined as icons of resilience and reinvention. "People called them bad girls because they partied or got drunk," he mused. "But look at them now, they’re flawless."
Closing the show, models carried Oscar statuettes—an unmistakable nod to Gong’s recent collaboration with Lisa for the 2025 Academy Awards, subtly signaling his own ascent in the industry. With this collection, Mark Gong moves beyond the spectacle, refining his aesthetic while proving that rebellious femininity and high fashion are not mutually exclusive.
