Tan FW25: A Decade of Threads and Stories
Celebrating its 10th anniversary with a runway debut, Tan unveiled a deeply intimate and culturally resonant Fall/Winter 2025-2026 collection at the Toda Building in Kyobashi, Tokyo. A tribute to craftsmanship, storytelling, and personal evolution, the show redefined knitwear with an intricate interplay of texture, memory, and global influence.
Designer Aki Murakami channeled the essence of a transformative solo journey to India, translating its vibrant spirit into fluid silhouettes and masterful detailing. Fringed skirts and jackets evoked the ornate embellishments of traditional Indian garments, their delicate strands meticulously affixed using SRA machinery. Gradient yarns replicated the quilted warmth of down jackets, while a light blue mohair knit dress captured the luminosity of Murakami’s travel experiences.
Beyond cultural homage, the collection bore an emotional weight. The passing of Murakami’s beloved dog of 15 years found expression in tactile, comforting textures—short-pile knits mimicked the softness of fur, while a sculptural clutch in the shape of a dog served as a heartfelt tribute. Draped headpieces, reminiscent of scarves and hijabs, further underscored the collection’s exploration of identity, heritage, and sentimentality.
Footwear also took center stage with Tan’s collaboration with Italian brand Pellico, reimagining the label’s signature pumps with shimmering knit uppers, seamlessly intertwining textile innovation with refined elegance.
With this milestone collection, Tan elevated knitwear beyond convention, transforming yarn into narratives that transcend seasons. Rooted in memory yet boldly looking ahead, the show was not merely a reflection of the brand’s past—it was a vision of its future.
